Workshop on Public Sector – CSO Cooperation, organized as a part of the activities TUSEV carries out under Monitoring and Enhancing Enabling Environment for Civil Society Project financed by the European Union (EU), was held on 2 May 2019 in Ankara, with the participation of 22 representatives from different public institutions. The workshop started with opening speeches by Başak Ersen, Secretary General of TUSEV, by Paolo Scialla, Deputy Head of Civil Society, Fundamental Rights, Judiciary and Home Affairs Section at Delegation of the EU to Turkey, by Ahmet Hakan Atik, Head of Directorate of Project Implementation at Republic of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate of EU Affairs.
Following the opening speeches, TUSEV project team delivered a presentation titled Enabling Environment for Civil Society and preliminary findings of the Survey of Monitoring and Enhancing Enabling Environment for Civil Society Project which was carried out between December 2018 – January 2019 by using the Civil Society Monitoring Matrix Methodology.
After the presentations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ulaş Karan, faculty member at Istanbul Bilgi University Law Faculty, informed the participants about the international standards on freedom of association, the legislation regarding associations and necessary conditions for enabling environment for Public Sector – CSO cooperation.
During the panel titled Public Sector-CSO Cooperation Through the Eyes of CSOs, Ülker Şener, Advocacy Coordinator of Association for Monitoring Gender Equality, Betül Selcen Özer, General Manager of Tohum Autism Foundation and Nevzat Özer, Ankara Representative of TEMA Foundation shared their experiences based on cooperation with public institutions by focusing on opportunities and difficulties. The workshop ended with a Q&A session, in which representatives of public institutions shared their comments and suggestions and discussed prominent topics of previous sessions.
